As we transition our wardrobe from summer to autumn, it’s important to changeover our beauty routine as well.

(Need help with dressing for in-between days? Don’t miss my style tips on mastering transeasonal dressing here).

For hydrated and radiant beauty during the winter months, take the necessary steps to guard against winter’s big dry – and make changes to your makeup bag as well.

Products that may have worked in summer may cause dehydration in cooler weather. Swap your daily skin essentials with more hydrating and nourishing formulas and include serums, night creams and masks for a super boost of hydration.

Eve Lom Cleanser $33, Mecca; Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion,$49, David Jones; Charlotte Tilbury Magic Night Cream $185; Tatcha ‘The Essence’ serum $138, Mecca.

Vitamin C

Touted as the secret to youthful skin, beauty’s superpower, Vitamin C, is a winter beauty must. With benefits including brightening skin, balancing out uneven skin tone, and supporting collagen, add this to your beauty cabinet now.

Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate

Exfoliation is vital in cold months when skin is exposed to harsh conditions outside and hot, dry air inside. Regular exfoliation is vital to maintain smooth skin and slough build up of dead skin cells which causes flaky skin.

If you don’t have regular facials, now is the time to start to ensure skin is prepped and healthy for the cold months.

The change of season is the perfect time to refresh your makeup bag with a few simple tricks.

Though I don’t recommend discarding ageless beauty essentials as bronzer and pink/peach blush, add radiance to makeup by swapping sombre winter hues for bright pinks and subtly shimmering metallics.

Cooper Hues
Metallics hues are not just for summer, pair cosy Autumn looks with shades of shimmering beauty.

Smokey Eyes
Smokey eyes are never out of season.  Try a sexy, smokey look for evening affairs.

We all love the look of sun-kissed and tousled waves but long days on the beach can leave hair dry and damaged.

If you’re planning a beach getaway this long weekend, these five easy beauty hacks will ensure hair remains healthy and shiny all day – and night – long.

Sun exposure from long days at the beach can leave hair dry and brittle. Before heading to the beach, protect hair from harsh UV rays with a quick spritz with heat protector – it also helps to prevent colour fading.

Bumble & Bumble Daytime Protective Repair Fluid, $66, Mecca

Hair is weakest when it’s wet and much easier to damage. To gently detangle wet hair, use a wide-tooth comb (or your fingers). Work in sections – start with the ends of your hair, then the middle to the ends, and finally roots-to-tips.

Mason Pearson detangling comb $39.95, David Jones Tangle Teezer $21.99, Priceline

If you’re rushing from beach to bar, recreate a natural beach tousle with a spritz of sea-salt-infused texturising spray to add texture and volume to hair with the added benefit of adding moisture lost from the sun and sea.

French Girl Sea Spray $18, Mecca

Beach life can strip and split hair. Reduce the effects of chlorine and salt water with a deep cleansing shampoo followed by a conditioner or cream to rejuvenate hair exposed to sun.

A sexy, tousled undo goes hand-in-hand with beach life. Après-beach create a quick and sexy updo with a texturising spray that offers natural looking hold and texture. Finish by pulling out some soft wisps around the face to soften and flatter.

The new year is the perfect time to undertake an audit of your beauty cabinet to ensure products are up-to-date and working for you to create healthy, flawless skin – and not causing your skin irritation or harm due to expired toxic ingredients or unclean beauty tools.

These simple beauty hacks will ensure you’re polished to perfection this new year.

Beauty and Makeup Stocktake
Do an audit of your beauty cabinet and throw out any expired or old products.  Products such as foundation, moisturisers and eye cream have a use-by date. Throw out anything over 12 months old and replace with new.

Skincare products are constantly improving and the new year is a good time to re-assess your skincare and makeup brands. What worked for you 2, 5, 10 years ago is almost certainly not right for you now.

Clean Your Brushes
Unwashed makeup brushes can stimulate harmful bacteria and cause skin problems.  Rinse your brushes in warm water and a gentle shampoo or cleanser and pat dry.  (I leave mine to air-dry on a towel).

Get a Facial – ASAP!
Sun exposure and heavy-duty sunscreens can wreak havoc on skin over the summer holidays.  Book yourself in for a facial asap and maintain regular treatments (every 6 to 8 weeks) for optimum health and vitality.

Hair Care
Build up of shampoo, conditioners and styling products takes a toll on your hair which can lead to dandruff and other scalp conditions. Change your shampoo brand and also treat dry, sun-damaged hair to a conditioning treatment and repeat every 4 to 6 weeks.

Brow Power
Well-shaped and groomed brows are vital to balance and frame a woman’s face and to counteract the appearance of ageing. Book a brow shaping treatment with your favourite brow artist now to tidy and reshape your brows.

Clean Your Phone
I dare you to google what bacteria and germs are on living on your phone right now. Regular cleaning of your phone is vital for your skin’s sake.

Summer hair needs to be as effortless as your style.

Hairstyles that add a youthful and fresh look to summer beauty include a tousled lob (long bob), a relaxed up-do, a chic ponytail, the ‘one-shoulder’ style or the ultimate summer hairdo, textured beachy-waves.

With a few well chosen products to suit your style, type, colour and condition, you can achieve easy-care and beautiful hair during the holiday season.  These iconic hair products that deliver time and time again, however, make your choice based on what is right for you.

Stylist Tip:  Make Velcro rollers your hair BFF – use them daily to add body and bounce.

Fine or thin hair is one of the most common beauty issues for women, especially after menopause due to hormonal changes.

Hair that’s full of bounce and life is the ultimate youth enhancer and fortunately there are a range of beauty products from shampoos to thickening sprays to add body and volume to hair.

From shampoo to boosting serums, turn up the volume on hair and add these products to your daily routine.

For the best body boosting results, prep hair with a good volumising shampoo and conditioner.

For an instant lift without a tacky finish, try a volumising mousse. Mousses are more lightweight than sprays and come in varying levels of hold. For best results, work mousse throughout hair as opposed to just adding to the roots.

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Perfectly Full Mousse, $15.95, Priceline

For ultimate volume, use a thickening spray before hot tools to style your hair.

Tigi Bedhead Superstar Queen For A Day, $33.95, Price Attack

This overnight treatment works while you get your beauty rest. Used weekly this mask will make hair more manageable and boost hydratation.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Night Cap Overnight Protector, $42, Mecca

Boosting serums are thicken hair by expanding it from roots to ends. Hair serums will help locks to look healthy and shiny as well as calming down the frizz factor and repairing any breakages.

Darkly dramatic, sleek and glossy or tousled and sexy – there was an array of beauty looks at this year’s Oscars.

Beauty note: Jennifer Garner rocked with her bombshell waves and blue-adorned eyes. Ben who?

Short, long or medium, sexy waves were a huge hit at the Oscars.

I love the differing beauty looks from these #ageless actresses.

Hair embellishments rocked the red carpet. Loving Lupita Nyong O’s bold blue eyeshadow.

Up-dos of all kinds dominated the red carpet.

From elegant to sleek, the classic lob dominated.

Who said you can’t have fabulous long hair over 40 – and 50.

Beauty award goes to Laura Dern whose timeless look was perfection.
