When your stylist is a renowned veteran of the fashion industry and current contributing editor at British Vogue and Vanity Fair, you simply can’t go wrong.

Stylist Elizabeth Saltzman created a flawless ensemble of gowns for actress Sandra Oh to co-host this year’s Golden Globes (and no surprise that Saltzman’s choices catapulted Oh to the top of the best-dressed list).

Saltzman dressed Oh in all-female designers and told People that “I called the women’s gang. I called Stella McCartney. I called Donatella Versace. She’s wearing all female designers, but that’s not a statement from her or from me. It was a way for me to think about her and how I respect her.”

Oh’s first gown was the stunning white floor-length Versace gown with exaggerated shoulders brilliantly topped off with elegant side-sweeping updo.

For the opening monologue, there was the spectacular Versace red blazer dress worn with a screen siren hairstyle reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour.

Then came my favourite, Oh wore a white Stella McCartney dress with a bateau neckline and sequinned arm sleeves to accept her Golden Globe award for best performance by an actress in a television drama for her role as Eve Polastri in Killing Eve. Oh’s elegant top knot balanced the high neckline perfectly.

Bravo to stylist Saltzman, for choosing the perfect style combination befitting the occasion of Oh making history as the first-ever actress of Asian decent to host the prestigious awards (alongside Andy Samberg).

Their styles may be radically different, but the common thread running amongst the fashions of over-40 celebrities at this year’s Golden Globes, was confidence and feeling comfortable in their skin.

(Though the under-40 celebs were stunning also – Lady Gaga’s periwinkle blue custom Valentino will long be remembered as an iconic style moment).

The A-list celebrities must have all received the memo that glamour was back as there was a hefty dose of sequins, chiffons, capes and feathers on the red carpet.

Lucy Lui and Glenn Close (Armani Privé) donned capes, Nicole Kidman (Michael Kors), Regina King and Thandie Newton were in head to sequins and Heidi Klum and Molly Sims chose pretty florals.

Alison Janey, Melissa McCarthy and Catherine Zeta Jones opted for bold colours whilst Julianne Moore and Jamie Lee Curtis chose classic white and Charlize Theron (Christian Dior Couture) and Rachel Weisz chose an ever-elegant monochromatic palette.

Others showed off toned figures showed them off in slinky gowns – Amy Adams in a gorgeous Calvin Klein teal frock and Taraji P Henson in slinky forrest-green velvet.

For me, the highlight of the red carpet was Julia Roberts in Stella McCartney tailored black trousers and a flowing champagne tulle top with delicate rhinestone detailing underneath. Her screen-siren hair and glowing makeup were perfection.

Over-40 celebrities shone on the red carpet at this year’s Golden Globe awards and matched stunning fashion choices with beauty looks that outclassed the younger celebrity set.

From Thandie Newton’s resplendent ‘Diana Ross channelling’ curled locks, to Nicole Kidman’s feminine tendrils finished with a pretty velvet bow and to Jamie Lee Curtis’ smoky eyes and white-white angular cut, over-40 celebrities proved that beauty is ageless – and powerful.

My favourite was Julia Roberts whose screen-star waves and soft, glowing makeup perfectly matched her Stella McCartney ensemble of tailored black trousers and a flowing champagne tulle top with delicate rhinestone detailing underneath.

The Fashion Awards 2016 (formerly the British Fashion Awards) were held at the Royal Albert Hall last night in London and all the fashionable people were there including Kate Moss, Lady Gaga and Gigi Hadid.  My fav of the night was Alexa Chung in a pastel yellow chinoserie-inspired pant suit by Prada.

Award winners included Simone Rocha for British Womenswear Designer, Alexander MacQueen for British Brand, Gigi Hadid took best International Model and Jaden and Willow Smith (children of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith) won New Fashion Icon.  Go to to see the full list of winners.

The most popular beauty look from the Emmys 2016 is also the most adaptable.  Full lashes and nude lips are so flattering, and oh-so easy to master, for women of all ages.
