Apple:  Generally carry your weight around the middle

  • Opt for ruching, gathering or shirring at the waist
  • Cross-over styles are great for hiding tummy
  • High-waisted bikinis are oh-so flattering

Pear Shape: Smaller on top, curvier at hips and thighs.

  • Opt for plunging necklines or details on top to draw the eye upward and away from the bottom
  • Avoid boy shorts, wide bottoms or extra fabric on the bottom

Curvy:  Full bust, hips, thighs, and butt

  • Highlight your curves
  • Colour blocking one-pieces
  • Retro-inspired bikinis with high waists and boxy halter tops

Large Bust: Proportionally Larger on Top

  • Full bust requiring more support
  • Bra-style tops with wider straps and underwiring
  • Halter-style tops with structured cups help with ‘gravity’ issues

Small Bust: Proportionally Smaller on Top, cup size usually A or B

  • Choose tops with ruffles, bold prints and patterns on top to create illusion of a larger bust
  • Triangle tops are great for illusion of curves
  • Hail the push-up bra!

Athletic:  Less curvy, generally straight up-and-down

  • Go all out with tops and bottoms of prints, patterns, ruffles and embellishments
  • Cut-outs help to soften and add femininity

Melbourne Cup Carnival starts tomorrow and every year the competition for the title of ‘most luxurious and glamourous marquee’ in the Birdcage at Flemington Racecourse gets more fierce every year.

The glamourous world of the Birdcadge is strictly for national and international A-listers and VIP’s and those lucky enough to receive an invitation into the hallowed tent walls of the 20 or more marquees inside The Birdcage enjoy the end of the Spring Racing Carnival in stylish luxury.

Companies including Emirates, GH Mumm, Lexus, David Jones, Myer and Lavazza, fork out up to $8000 per head for their guests to sip on $8,000 bottles of champagne out of Wedgewood glasses and dine on delicacies such as Oscietra caviar flown in 24 hours earlier from Abu Dhabi and prepared by some of Australia’s top chefs.  (N.B.  Oscietra caviar is at it’s best eaten within 24 hours of harvest).

Your beauty and style needs are catered for as well.  Did you chip your nails on the marbled top bar, does your makeup need a little retouch?  No problem, duck into the Beauty Bar for a little refresh and a spritz of the latest ‘it’ fragrance on the way out.

If you’re pedicured feet start to ache, perch yourself on a gilded chair in the Emirates marquee that was modeled on the Catherine Palace in St Petersburg under crystal chandeliers while the Cossack-clad waiter serves you a blini topped with oscietra caviar (24 hours fresh of course).  Or relax a little as the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s string quartet serenades you and as you exit don’t forget to stop and admire the blue Fabergé egg adorned with 800 glass-cut diamantes.

If watching thoroughbreds gallop at full speed is not your thing, the circus acrobats, German beer-hall dancing girls or live performance by one of Australia’s music luminaries might entertain you.  Say hi to Naomi (Campbell), or compare shoe size with Sarah Jessica (Parker) and absolutely don’t forget to pass on your regards to Beyoncé when you bump into her sister Solange in the ladies.

As the day draws to a close and you’ve had your fill of celebrities, fine food and French champagne, your helicopter awaits (in the designated area for air transport close by) and you’ll be home within no time to rest your stylish bones and finally remove your Louboutins.

N.B.   If anyone from the Victorian Racing Club is reading this, please re-send my invitation as it’s obviously been lost in the mail.
