If you want to become the best version of you, the new year is the perfect time for a style makeover.

However a style makeover can be a bit daunting and it’s sometimes hard to know where to start. These easy and practical tips will help to refresh your style and wardrobe and step into a brand new you in 2019:

What Do You Want Your Style to Say About You?
It takes seven seconds to make an impression. As fashion media icon Carine Roitfeld says, “fashion is a bit about changing into the person you dream of becoming”. What do you want your clothes to say about you and why? Who do you want to become?

Connect With You
Look to women of all ages who are considered style icons and they all share a common trait – a connection of mind, body and spirit – Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Mirren, Goldie Hawn, Cindy Crawford – to name just a few – all understand that great style comes when you’re heart, health and mind are in alignment. Exercise, eating well and having a healthy mind and attitude will empower you to greater style.

Be Inspired
If you’re not sure of your style direction find someone whose style you love and emulate them. It could be your best friend, your boss or your favourite celebrity. There are unlimited resources via fashion magazines or online (Frocknet), to help you find a style that you love and feel comfortable in.

Wardrobe Declutter
A wardrobe cull will clear your clothes – and your mind.  Rid yourself of anything that doesn’t fit, you haven’t worn for years, are keeping for “when it fits” because chances are by the time it does it will be out of style.

Be Daring
Have fun with style and take fashion risks. It’s never too late to step out of your comfort zone and shake up your usual fashion choices. Take a leaf out of Susan Sarandon’s book – if you’ve still got it, flaunt it!

Style is 24:7
As style icon Rachel Zoe says ‘any excuse for a fashion moment’.  The fact is you are you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so beware of falling into ‘shlumpadinka’ mode (as Oprah calls it) the moment you get home. If you look good you feel good. Swap those tired and comfy shorts in summer for a pretty sundress and your sloppy and too-big sweats in winter for jeans or pants and a stylish knit.

Feeling comfortable in your own skin and dressing with attitude is the way forward to great style. Gone are the days when you had to dress a certain way the time you turned 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and beyond. Great style is all about a great attitude.

“Age isn’t a big issue any more.  We’re looking younger and in better shape.  For me ‘dressing your age’ has negative connotation.  It’s not so much about age but about attitude” – Donna Karan
